Paper Abstract:
|
The paper examines the developmental process of designing e-learning content based on a quality approach from a communicational perspective. The aim of the study we conducted takes into account technical norms concerning the level of interoperability between the Learning Management System (LMS) called Moodle and an authoring e-learning tool, Learning Activity Management System (LAMS), from the perspective of users. Following recent work done in the domain of interoperability of LMS (El Harrassi 2010) [2], 20 interviews were conducted with experienced e-learning engineers in Moroccan universities about their expectations and perceptions in creating digital documents for distance learning. The results of the study highlight disparities between the technical demands of creating e-learning documents and the educational and communicational needs of end-users (viz. learners and tutors) of e-learning. The study shows that the process of creating e-learning documents is invariably centered on the desire of e-learning engineers to use the latest innovative technology. This technocentric approach to e-learning does not take into account in a systematically rigorous way the needs and expectations of end-users in the design, management and delivery of e-learning activities. In taking stock of this grassroots reality, the paper presents an approach that bridges the gap between technical and communicational needs of e-learning in a hands-on way. The approach is a blend taken from the pedagogic engineering framework of Paquette (2002)[5] and the quality-based method of Leleu-Merviel (1996)[4]. |
